When a chain wraps around the top rail, it puts unnecessary stress on chains and fasteners. Swing hangers are designed specifically so that the vast majority of stress of swinging is put on the bronze bearing within the swing hanger. When weight is put on the chains and fasteners, it causes them to wear more quickly. Please note, when installing the 3-1/2″ O.D. Non-Wrap Swing Hanger with Shackle Pendulum – SH126, do not torque more than 25ft-lbs.
